Youth Media in Every School

Omladinski informator 2013 Palilula

OUR SOLUTION FOR IMPROVING ACCESS TO SOCIAL RIGHTS FOR YOUTH

AGENDA Organization and the Red Cross Palilula implemented the project Youth Media in Every School whose goal is to better inform students and the encouragement of cooperation among all schools in the municipality of Palilula (Belgrade).

This unique project includes the municipality Palilula all students in primary and secondary schools, as well as students of the School for adult education “Braca Stamenkovic” (23 schools, aprox. 12,000 students).

Young people in Serbia,  are the least informed categories of the population (source: Strategy for Youth – the Republic of Serbia). Young people and their topics media devote not enough space, only about 30% of the statutory minimum. Participation by young people in creating the information is insignificant or completely absent.
Also, lacking the ability to inform young people about the activities taking place in local communities because of the visibility of those activities is negligible. Therefore, the possibility of active participation and contributing to the improvement of life in their community.

Program YOUTH MEDIA IN EVERY SCHOOL was aimed at correcting this deficiency at the local level.

The program is designed so that as holders of the program set up by the students themselves and their teachers (eg. Teachers in charge of cooperation with the Red Cross and / or other interested activities). Each school formed a Working team composed of 4 – 5 motivated students and one professor. For Work Teams to acquire the necessary basic knowledge of topics and areas covered by the program, we organized the training – how to get information on how to check, how to write an effective text, how to choose the right information on how to present them …..

The topics that were dealt with under this Program are:

1.  Access to Human / Social / Children’s rights – rights that young people have, how these rights are accessed, who protecting their rights (ie. Social orientation). The information where created in cooperation with the Secretariat for Education, the Ombudsman, the Council of Europe Department for youth, and other relevant institutions;

2.  Protecting the health of young people and the promotion of healthy lifestyles – first aid, prevention of human trafficking, AIDS, drug addiction, violence, abuse on the Internet, (socio-health orientation ie. who to contact in case of problems in these areas);

3. Information about programs and activities that take place in the local environment and opportunities for involvement. Free of charge leisure time activities, volunteering opportunities, free sport etc…;

4. Presentation of the activities carried out by young people in the local community ie. enabling visibility;

The program places special emphasis on enabling participation and autonomy of young people in creating a desired content through active engagement Working teams of five students and one teacher in each school.

Within the framework of the Program are provided monitors for all 23 schools and they should be installed in the school hall or in another conspicuous place. Since the monitors to be placed in the school hall, access to the content that is transmitted to them will have equally students and teachers, but also parents and others who come to school.

Project is supported by Telenor Fondation and Swiss Cooperation Office in Serbia SDC

Mentoring program for Roma students

YOUTH FOR YOUTH

In summer 2014.  AGENDA started mentorship program YOUTH FOR YOUTH

Short description of program

We believe that one of the biggest issues that Roma students and youth in general face is the lack of access to Social Rights, mainly education, as well as lack of opportunities for academic growth and development of leadership skills. This project has multiple groups that will benefit as it creates a platform for youth to learn from other youth, while building networks and mentorship-bonds.

YOUTH FOR YOUTH is a project that is targeting several groups of beneficiaries. The target groups involved in this project are Roma College students, Roma middle school students and mentors.

YOUTH FOR YOUTH consist of two main activities, the first being, forming a group of young Roma students – mentees. For this purpose seminar in Red Cross Vrsac resort was conducted, with 27 participants – Roma High School students and College students and students who are studying abroad.

Second activity was series of networking events and finding adequate mentors for mentees according to their particular needs and connecting mentors and mentees with one main goal to support Roma students in education.

After a 5 month of mentorship program, we have active 10 mentorship pears. As we are living in 21st centuries, it is possible for people to connect all over the world, so some of our mentors are abroad, and one pear (mentor-mentee) are in Vienna on a same College.

What do we need next is support for our pears mentor-mentee meetings and further development of mentoring program through training, workshops and software program to communicate all together wherever we are.

We all are ready and eager for the next steps

on our journey.
